It can be hard to find nice, usable patterns. There are so many patterns out there that aren’t really up to standard, and looking for them can be a waste of time for you, especially if you’re working on an important project. That’s why I put together this little list of some of the nicest patterns on the web, consisting of over 450 different patterns.
If this is your first time using patterns, you can load them by going to blending options (on the layer you want to apply the pattern to), selecting the “Pattern Overlay” option, and clicking on the arrow beside the selected pattern. Then you’ll see a small arrow on the right hand side. Click on this, and select either “Load Patterns…” or “Replace Patterns…”. If you replace, all the other patterns will disappear and only the patterns you loaded will be shown. If you load the pattern, the patterns will be displayed below the current patterns in the palette.
You might notice that some of these are images rather than the traditional pattern format. If you want to turn them into patterns, open the image file, and go to Edit » Define Pattern…. Name it whatever you want and click OK. It should now appear in your pattern palette when you go to pattern overlay in blending options
Don’t forget to mess around with the other pattern settings so that you get the pattern to look how you want it to look.
Also, click on the images for more patterns. The image displayed is just an example of the pattern set, but many contain numerous patterns, so there isn’t just 23 patterns, there are loads more when you click through.
