17 Essential Cheat Sheets for Web Developers

Web Development is a pretty hectic field, with loads of stuff to remember in a constantly moving and updating field of work. It can be a bit hard then, to try and keep track of all the little details in all those coding languages you spent hours learning. When I’m coding I find myself googling for a certain function every few minutes to check it exists, and this wastes valuable time.

Luckily, a load of lovely web developers have created little things called Cheat Sheets, which let you reference the basics of languages really fast from one sheet. Below I present you with 15 essential cheat sheets for you to reference till your hearts content.





HTML

HTML 5 Cheat Sheet

HTML 5 is one of the new emerging technologies on the web, and this is a cheat sheet i think we all could use, at least until we get used to the idea of it.

HTML Cheat Sheet

HTML can still cause some hassle amongst newbies, and even pros. Here’s a cheat sheet for quick references to your favorite HTML properties.

CSS

CSS3 Cheat Sheet

CSS3 is the new kid on the block, and eventually you’re going to need to be able to use all those fancy new features that it offers. Luckily though, Smashing Magazine has put together a CSS3 cheat sheet for you!

Shorthand CSS Cheat Sheet

For times when bandwidth is limited, or when you want your website to load faster than here’s a little guide to how to put all those CSS properties on one line.

.htaccess is awesome when you know how to use it, and this cheat sheet will go over all the most common uses of it.

mod_rewrite Cheat Sheet

mod_rewrite is used when rewriting urls, to change them to your liking. This cheat sheet will give you loads of information on how to do that.

Javascript

Another great cheat sheet from Addedbytes, this time for javascript.

jQuery

jQuery Cheat Sheet

Another really useful cheat sheet, this came in especially handy for me when I was learning jQuery.

MySQL

A List of HTML Characters

A handy little list of some of the characters that aren’t printed on your keyboard, so you can quickly add them to your website.

Compatibility Table

A Browser Compatibility Table

A list of browser incompatibilities and compatibilities, for when you don’t know what’s what.
